nzfw 2014 – stolen girlfriends club
SGC are quite simply the only New Zealand label able to make the fashion community come to Western Springs Speedway, sit on concrete steps while wearing a black plastic poncho (in case of inclement weather) while models walk down 400 metres of gravel track lit by car headlights. And everyone (bar those who inappropriately under dressed) LOVED it. And then they staged an aftershow party at a strip club. Sums up SGC and their attitude perfectly. It is all one big party. I often think they design their collections with one big party in mind as well. This collection continued themes for them of leather jackets & pants, bomber jackets, stove pipes, tartan, patched jeans, string vests all with a street punk feel.
Working mainly with black there was a good dose of mustard yellow and burgundy thrown in for good measure. The arrow detailing appeared also, this time on jeans, dresses and jackets. Loved the marbled effect fabric (its a keeper) and all the glitter impregnanted black – loved the cuffed pants, skirt and especially the jacket. All in true SGC style.
NB Someone on the SGC team must be watching re-runs of the creepy David Lynch classic series Twin Peaks with lines and pictures inspiring tees and prints. Fire Walk With Me…
