nzfw 2014 – nom*d

If there was a perfect way to start a fashion week, then NOM*d certainly found it. They did it their way with a smoke filled space right from the start, and only half the venue being used.  Seven drum sets and drummers (complete with balaclavas) were set up on the right hand side – and were waiting as we filed in. We were given black ear plugs, so we knew something BIG was about to happen.  And big it was – big on sound, drama, style and scale.

The clothes came down the runway to the soundtrack created by the seven drummers – with very simple pale faces, blackened ears and  the softest of lips done by Kiekie Stanners for M.A.C. cosmetics. The sculptural hair done by Jason Chong Li for Stephen Marr was flat ironed in tails and was simply amazing. The styling was done by Karen Inderbitzen-Waller.

The collection was typically stripped back with a palette of black, dark navy, grey and stark white. The floor length skirts were detailed with three pleats at the back which is a re-occurring NOM*d touch, as is the side leather buckled detail. It seemed all the coats, dresses, skirts and pants came in maxi, floor brushing length. The tees as always where beautiful – it was quite simply a joy to have them back at NZFW after their last show is 2010.

The beautifully constructed felt hats where made by Myra Lloyd from Marmalade Hats. The shoes were all Dr Martens, which featured the tall Drench Boot.
