kathryn wilson – thanks for having us wfw2013
Kathryn Wilson likes to do things a little diffently. Instead of tagging on a small amount to each pair of shoes she makes to fundraise, she organizes (with the help of Murray Bevin from Showroom 22) what was pretty much the PR event of the year last year with her ‘Fit for a Princess’ night in Auckland. Instead of finding a small space to use as a pop up shop, she has a moveable shop custom-made and moves it from Britomart in Auckland then to Wellington after running a campaign to find the perfect spot for it. And now that ‘shoe box’ container is leaving Wellington to move down to Christchurch. Kathryn Wilson could have just left Wellington and moved her energies on to Christchurch, but instead in true Kathryn Wilson fashion, she threw a party to say thank you to Wellington for having her… surely we should be thanking her?
So during Wellington Fashion Week Kathryn said thank you in style throwing a party at Jeff Gray BMW with a whole lot of Veuve Clicquot on hand. Those of us that had been at the Group Show earlier in the evening had the great pleasure of being picked up in a fleet of BMWs sent to make sure we got to her party on time! Talk about VIP service! I could most definitely get used to that…
Kathryn started the evening with a speech about her background and how she got to be where she is today – thanking several people in the audience including Paul Blomfeild who encouraged her to go for the AMP Scholarship which was an important part of her growth at a designer. Then the show started with the models dressed in Pleasure State lingerie, Dyrberg/Kern jewelry and belts made especially for the event by Stylist Barry Betham. And Kathryn Wilson shoes… lots of them! My favorites are the high-heeled fabric covered sandals in black and white – with a little peep toe. Gorgeous.
Christchurch get to have a bit of Kathryn Wilson magic next. Lucky them. I wonder where it will go to from there?
Many thanks to Chris Park from Style Collective for his great photographs.
