nzfw 2012 – stolen girlfriends club

What do you get when you get thousand people, a kick a**e collection and a darkened carpark?  You get a memorable Stolen Girlfriends Club show, thats what.  Once those that could be seated (500) with the remaining standing, the lights were turned off and everyone was asked to turn their phones on. Then, and only then did the first models came down the runway. The fluorescent lighting strapped to the pillars was turned on and the show started in earnest. With what has been described as ‘reptilian camo’ in deep purples and green on denim the stand out for me, with dresses, jackets, skirts and shorts careering down the runway to Cypress Hill’s I want to Get High.  The eye-catching yellow was an amazing contrast to the complex camo fabric – especially with the double-headed snake print. The Karl Maughn colab that SGC did SS 2011/12 is my absolutely all time favorite SGC print, though after seeing last night – I may have to adjust that thought… Also loved the horizontal black and white stripe, and the leather jacket.  Leather is most certainly hot at the moment, and SGC have used it to full advantage. With mod bomber jackets for the boys and a full length mesh dress to round out the collection for the girls, it was a long and strong collection. The make up for this show was one of my favourites for the week with slashes of bright mint and magenta on the eyes. The key makeup artist was Kiekie Stanners for M.A.C.

  1. SGC definitely can put on a good Show, but not a good Fashion Show. There’s just really nothing inspiring in any of these looks!

    • I just loved this show, interestingly I thought it was one their strongest design-wise. That is the fabulous thing about fashion/style, we all have different opinions, and different things that we love.
