the week that was #1

Well.  What a week it has been!  I have decided to do a post with all the bits and pieces that have happened in the past week just in case you have missed anything!  The delicious post of the week goes to the collaboration between Jordan Rondel, Laura Barton and Calypso Paoli.  They are all in completely different lines of work – yet they came together to to create this short ‘sweet’ little film.  It showcases the gorgeous cakes from THE CAKER as well as clothing from Stolen Girlfriends Club and jewelry by Zoe & Morgan.  A sweet little morsel to make you smile…

The week kicked off with the announcement of all the designers showing at NZFW this year.  With 20 designers showing, it is all looking fabulous!  There are several familiar faces NOT showing – Jimmy D was the disappointment for me – turns out it is due to just how busy he is with both his label AND this store.  So this year he is taking some time out.  There is a bit of a quite whisper that there maybe some other things happening in Auckland in the week before NZFW – we will let you know when we know more.

Instead of showing winter 2013 at NZFW, World will be doing an in season show for the public on August 22nd titled A Night of Luxury at the Langham.  At $89 a ticket, with nibbles, wine, goodie bag AND an always-extravagant show – it is well worth it.  We will be there and bringing you the best from the evening.

A little more on Jimmy D’s James Dobson… he is opening a Children of Vision pop-up store down in Wellington for 3 days from August 3 to 5 at The Service Depot on Wakefield Street.  With his fantastic balance of hard-to-find international labels and local brands, there will also be more from Jimmy D especially for this pop up store.  The store will have Bernhard Wilhelm (Belgium) Peter Jensen (UK) Eley Kishimoto (UK) Complexgeometries (CAN) Glen Prentice (NZ) and the very exciting new accessory label Blue Blank from Auckland.

Another pop up store is Barkers and Friends, which finds Barkers and combine talents with Flotsam and Jetsam in a pop up store on Ponsonby Rd.  With a masculine (one would hope so) industrial aesthetic– it is definitely one to visit.

The surprise of the week goes to Number One Shoes for producing pop star Zowie at their new season’s launch.  The tiny pop star sang Broken Machine and got everyone smiling.  Wearing a World Edwardian Jacket and silver Felicity Dress Shoes from Number One Shoes – she looked every bit the star.  The shoe collection was bright and colourful and we will bring you our best picks next week.

Clothing label Storm has released a lipstick in collaboration with eco-warrior Karen Murrell called Scarlett Blaze.  It is just $29 and is available either on line at or in Storm stores.

And finally, Karen Walker released her new range Fantastique a limited edition luxury filigree collection of sunglasses.  This release sees a re-interpretation of Karen Walker’s most famous five styles in show-stopping laser cut black & gold metal filigree.  The limited edition collection will be available in all five Karen Walker stores as well as Sunglass Bar (Auckland), Good As Gold (Wellington), Spex (Napier), Seletti (Queenstown), and Infinite Definite (Christchurch).
