One of my all time standout NZFW shows was Salasai W2011 called “Uncharted Territory” – I just loved the punk/tartan vibe of the show in St Matthews in the City. To this day I have a clear picture in my mind of sitting in that beautiful space with the amazing stone vaulted ceiling so ridiculously excited to see the show – and it didn’t disappoint!

This year Salasai chose to work with Architecture firm Taylored Studio to create something quite memorable to compliment their W2017 collection.  Both companies were established in 2007 and share a similar protocol where exception and detail command design. As an architectural practise TAILORED STUDIO with both international and national experience in a wide range of projects.  For them difference is highlighted to achieve distinction in all works created.

“We wanted to work with Will and the team at Taylored Studio to create a concept that had never been done before on our shores to celebrate the so many aspects of our brand” said Kelly and Krishna from Salasai.

The fruit of their collaboration was a large, sharp structure built on the runway which was quite breathtaking in its size and presence. The models then moved through creating interesting plays with shadow – making the shots from the show exceptional. The collection itself had a geometric play to it and it is definitely a collection that “speaks my language”. With a darker edge and an amazing print – this is Salasai at their best. The collaboration bought the best out in both Salasai and Taylored Studio. May we see more of this at fashion weeks to come.

Accessories! I loved the bags – especially the backpack

I always love the knitwear. Big floppy oversized cardigans for the guys (or gals) and the hugely oversized jumper with collage detail in wool on the front – I would take it home now.
