adorn – iD dunedin fashion week 2016
Late last year Auckland was visited by a beautiful piece of Dunedin. As a precursor to iD Dunedin Fashion Week 2016 a space in Kingsland, Auckland was taken over with four Dunedin designers showing. Walking to the sound of Dunedin (the Verlaines, Death and The Maiden; Straitjacket Fits, Down in Splendour; The 3Ds Spooky ) the space was filled with pieces from NOM*d, Company of Strangers, Mild-Red and CARLSON.
As an added bonus we also got to see six emerging designer collections selected from the Otago Polytechnic to show at the iD Fashion Show to be held at the Railway Station on Friday March 18 and Saturday March 19, 2016. I was really impressed by Sharlee Ghent’s collection.
iD is quite simply upon us with the official start just next Monday. Michelle and I will be down there as we have been for the past two years to soak it all in. It is one of the highlights of our year with Dunedin putting on all its best fashion and cultural finery with the whole town coming together to celebrate a uniquely Dunedin event. That said, at the same time, it is uniquely international event also.
The week culminates in the iD International Emerging Designer Awards, supported by the Otago Polytechnic, Australasia’s only international emerging fashion design competition, held on Thursday March 17, which attracts new designers from around the world looking to launch their careers on an international stage. The following nights offer the iD Fashion Show held at Dunedin’s Railway Station which features New Zealand designers, emerging designers and British-based designer Emilia Wickstead.
