harman grubisa aw2015 lean close

Everytime I try to talk about Harman Grubisa I end up waxing lyrical about how talented these two remarkable designers are and it gets pretty hard to shut me up. I could go on about their tailoring (impeccable) or their design (elegant) or their palette (cohesive) or their fabric (leather – yes I said leather) but mostly I want to talk about who they are designing for. HG have taken the path generally untrod by many young designers – they know exactly who they are designing for, and it isn’t necessarily the young hip and fabulous (though their designs are worn by them).  It is for older, elegant woman who know what they want – and it is generally clothing that is beautifully cut, flattering and most of all, timeless.  These woman are less interested in the fast, cyclic nature of fashion and are far more interested in their own quietly evolving sense of style. And Harman Grubisa has loads and loads of style…

I was lucky enough to see their salon-style show at Lucy and The Powder Room at The Department Store in Takapuna recently. There were many pieces that I lusted after but if I had to pin it down the Overnight Jacket in Black Fringe and The Skinny Pant would be the ones destined for my closet. It appears I was not the only one with what turned into a genteel (but determined) bun fight over the clothing racks as the clothes were wheeled out after the show…

Don’t panic though, as sort after as these pieces are (but not the sold out Dawn Coat in Pink that featured recently on the cover of Fashion Quarterly) they are soon to be available in their new store at 20 Jervois Road Ponsonby that opens in July. Lucky elegant us…
