nzfw 2014 – juliette hogan

Slick, sexy and simple. Juliette Hogan’s New York inspired collection w2015 collection called “Take It Or Leave It” was all three of those things. The emphasis was most definitely on the quiet detail. Beautifully done, from lounge-y fisherman’s jumpers, thick wool coats, jeans, and tee shirt dresses, to floor length gowns both embellished and also covered in sequins (which of course I am going to love!). Her clothes are never over done, always restrained, but with a harder edge to some of this collection.
The show started with Sunken Seas who provided the soundtrack for the collection, sharing the stage with five models. Then the models came down to walk the runway. First out was a winter version of the current Hydrangea-inspired floral print in darker winter roses. With plenty of winter white in long pleated skirts, floor length dresses – this was followed by lace shifts and dresses. The last third was all in black but with beautiful textures added with sequins. There were a great pair of leather pants with a zipped leg, the leather quietly showed up through the entire collection with biased detail on dress necks and skirt waistbands. I want the floor length sequined skirt -in black of course! Perfection. The 35 or so models finished with the full contingent filling the runway in one big brilliant finale. It was worth waiting for.
