nzfw2013 – nyne

The very best things about NZFW are seeing a new label for the first time, and seeing an established label grow from strength to strength. Hamilton-based NYNE had a show that can only be described as rock n roll, with live music from Thunderdykes and a dark, smokey atmosphere. NYNE’s Nomadic has imagined a present-day wandering tribe, with winter-white dresses with panelled hemlines and bunched net tights adding to the layering effect.  Beautiful hats from Myra Lloyd of Marmalade Hats were the perfect complement, as were the Rollie Nation shoes and boots. I am always about androgyny and I loved this element in this collection. Tailored shirts and wide-cut trousers with beautiful shots of red with a tailored jacket and a fabulous cape dress. The knitwear was a standout all through the collection, but especially the red (I just loved ALL of the red – just the perfect deep version). Black velvet devore was added for texture.

The monochrome geometric patched print was easily the best monochrome this week and I overheard several people discussing it as they left the show – adding it to their ‘must have’ list.

NYNE’s take on the bomber was short-sleeved and I loved the A-line dress with pockets (all dresses should have pockets!).  I love that NYNE work hard at keeping their price-point down with their clever use of fabrics making the label as accessible as possible.

The hair was done by Fraser Foulagi for Ryder using KMS. The makeup was by James Malloy for M.A.C. with styling by Tina Allen and Phillip Hawkins from NYNE.
