nzfw 2013 – twenty-seven names

With the  Mariah Carey soundtrack kicking off NZFW 2013, closely followed by Jay-Z, twenty seven names showed a beautifully mature collection. They have kept their playful, child-like qualities but the new collection as a more grown up feel to it.  Inspired by Rene Magritte the infamous Belgian surrealist artist, the new w2014 collection is called I’m Lost.  After visiting a museum dedicated to the artist, designers Rachel Easting and Anjali Stewart borrowed Rene’s signature bowler hat, green apple and beating heart imagery to create some beautiful prints, which they are always strong on.

With a very continental feel to the entire collection with breton stripes, boucle jackets, camel coloured wool trench coat, navy pea coat and neat navy suits. The beautiful self-stripe in navy silk with a heart motif in soft yellow started off the patterns. Loved the pretty bowler hat print in apricot and the navy inverted animal print. The knitwear added another layer with cream preppy oxford cable sweater and fine blue and soft pink stripes.

Then just throw a curveball, they added my favourite fabric with vintage-looking red brocade with gold and black. Loved the dresses in this fabric, and the red cape in wool.

Beautifully tailored, perfectly finished and tightly edited – the collection made you feel like you could just throw a piece on and walk out the door ready to face the day.

The simple Brussels Black Tie Dress perfectly encasulates their collection. Easy to wear  with the minimum of fuss.

The show was beautifully styled by Dan Awha, with the makeup by Amber D. The hair was by Micheal Beel from Buoy in Wellington.
