shop talk

There is a whole punch of new stuff going on with shops in and around town at the moment, so I thought I would give you a bit of an update.

The fantastic label DMONIC INTENT has opened a pop up store at Shop 3, Cross Street Arcade, 214 K’Rd (next to Ahoy Cutie) for this week (maybe longer – it depends).  How they have managed to fit this into their busy schedule I have no idea but I would get up there asap if their F**k The Masses Tee struck a chord with you (as it did with many at their showing at Miromoda Show NZFW2012). They decidedly do their own thing and their pop up store will fit perfectly into K’Rd.

Another label from Miromoda is the brightly coloured, very feminine label PIA Boutique. I say feminine but I do mean with attitude – the bold use of colour and strong graphic prints mean that PIA Boutique wearers are certainly not wallflowers. While still an on-line boutique , they now have a more permanent home in Parnell.  You can now find them at 317 Parnell Road, Parnell. This shot was taken by the Boys from FourEyesBlog of Madeleine in her PIA Boutique dress which was her big purchase for summer this year…

To prove that I am not totally obsessed with only what happens in Auckland, M.A.C. have opened their first store in the Waikato.  Now Hamilton have M.A.C. available as part of  Farmers Centre Place Shopping Centre, 501 Victoria St, Hamilton. This is perfect timing as their Fashion Sets four sets in bold and beautiful brights will be released on the 6th May. I am loving the beautiful ‘Heroine’ in deep lilac/violet which comes in an eyeshadow, eye pencil, lipstick, gloss and of course a nail enamel. This range is available in all M.A.C. stores in New Zealand from 6th May.

The ever-changing landscape of the carefully curated space The Department Store, has morphed again to accommodate the increasingly popular labels of Lonely Hearts and their lingerie range, Lonely. Lonely Hearts was available as part of the Black Box space on the ground floor, but has now moved to the first floor in a space pretty much just for them and the lingerie range. The space is also shared with the wonderful Miss Crabb range, as well as Otsu with their billowy take on dresses and belted tops. It’s a great space – and we were very taken with the fabulous silk tartans of Lonely Hearts most current collection, and the eye-popping colours of Miss Crabb’s dresses in hot pinks.

Speaking of ever-changing spaces, Ponsonby Central is getting itself a name for great pop ups, after Nick Von K just before Xmas last year, and Saben bags before him, they now have A Tattooed Heart currently in residence. But even they are going to have a pop up store with Tanya-Jade (of Misery fame) having a solo exhibition MOMO, from 11th-19th May in their space. The opening reception will be Friday 10th May from 7pm. The Daughter is really looking forward to it, with both large and small-scale paintings, as well as limited prints as well. That should cater for all budgets… she is an incredibly hardworking, large-hearted individual, much-loved by her admirers – us included.

Just so that interiors aren’t forgotten about, the very cute The Bread and Butter Letter has opened on K’Rd bringing us more of their whimsy which is also available on-line. Full of crafty, sweet prints, cards and books, there is also tea! They stock the gorgeous Tinker range of candles which I am particularly taken with at the moment.  These Virgin Mary candles are just $39 available both inshore and online. K’Rd continues to be one of my favourite shopping destinations (especially with The Daughter) with IKO IKO, Children of Vision, The Front Room, The Paper Bag Princess, and Allelujah Cafe to choose from.

  1. Don’t forget Maaike + Co in K Rd! Delicious!
Also, there’s a MisteR (& many, many friends) pop-up store in Christchurch this coming weekend – May 3, 4, 5 at 7 Wise St (behind the Addington Coffee Co-op). So much goodness to be had for the southern folk! xx
