all that glitters

Seriously, there is so much gold around at the moment, I decided it warranted a post of its own. With a colab between Karen Walker and Zora Bell-Boyd, gold nail polish, classic sunglasses re-invented, a cheap and cheerful pair of flats to add to your wardrobe and even a personalized luggage tag, I can safely say we have something for just about everyone, and every budget.

Karen Walker and Zora Bell-Boyd (of cult jewelry label Wunderkammer) have been busy.  Their combined talents have created a one-off pendent made with a large citrine accompanied by black and white diamonds.  It features the truly KW Runway Girl made in 9 Carat gold.  The piece will be auctioned off at annual Lucky Dip Club event at Karen Walker’s Playpark tonight.  If the piece doesn’t make it’s reserve, it will be put onto Trademe where it is sure to generate a lot of interest, with the proceeds of the sale going to Breast Cancer Research Trust, of which Karen Walker is Ambassador. Of the project, Karen said “We’ve always adored Zora’s work and we’re thrilled to be able to work with her on this project. The piece is very special and will be a wonderful addition to any jewellery box.”  The piece would retail for $6975.  Look out for further collaborations between the two in-store soon.

If you don’t want to get into a bidding war over a piece of KW jewelry, her new Botanical range is in store. Made from in both gold and silver as well, the whimsical range of necklaces rings and entirely beautiful bracelets can be found in-store. With christmas looming, there will be the perennial problems of what to get the ‘Girl Who Has Everything’.  ghd may possible have created the answer with the new limited edition Gold Classic Styler.  Coming in three shades and retailing for $319, the boxed set will be just the right thing for sleek locks.  Entirely wasted on my crazy mop of hair, but there are days when I dream about sleek, neat hair – this would be the way to achieve it!

With sunglasses, I like to go one of two ways, cheap and cheerful with a pair that will get me through the summer, or investing in a classic pair that will go the distance. With the Folding Aviators from Ray Ban, it seems to me, that the perfect classic has been found. I have a thin, narrow face and often find it difficult to find the right shaped pair for me – but these suit even my face. They are light to wear and as they fold up into their own case – it is easy to pop them into a handbag or in my case the glovebox, ready to be whipped out when they are needed (or just plain wanted).  Available from OPSM for $410 .  There is only one problem with them, and that is the fact that my Husband is very fond of them and keeps trying to acquire them for himself… the flip side of unisex wear!

For the more subtle use of gold – and  for the Lady (or Gentleman) who has everything, Deadly Ponies is offering its clients the opportunity to have personalized luggage tags made.  For $120 you too can have the best dresses luggage at the airport… find them on-line at deadlyponies.com

Next, I have two fabulous ways to add a bit of metallic glamour to your life. OPI have come up with a collection to celebrate the release of the next Bond installment, Skyfall. This collection has the added bonus of a gold nail polish.  Yes, an 18 carat gold nail polish.  This is a top coat that adds shimmers of real gold over your polish.  At $74, the aptly name Man With A Golden Gun polish is a bit of fabulous fun. And for a black addict like myself, it is a great way to add a bit a something special to an outfit. The collection released for Skyfall retails for $24.95 and I love the gold glitter variation… Available from selected pharmacies, department stores and beauty salons.

Lastly, I have included these Gold Detail Bow Slippers from Glassons simply because you can’t go past a pair of ballet flats in the summer.  They go with everything – from cuffed dark denim jeans, to the capris we will be seeing everywhere. Again, for a black addict like me – a great way to add a bit of interest. At just $29 – they won’t break the bank.
