Beautiful Blacknzfw 2012 – weddings
Weddings are not usually head of the conversation topics in our house as a rule. But with my Step Daughter Mel getting married in a little over four months time, weddings are pretty much our favourite topic at the moment. With the bridesmaid’s dresses already picked (pretty 50’s style dresses – as Madeleine is one of her bridesmaids), the venue is sorted and the guests are all invited. The last piece of the puzzle is the wedding dress itself. So the Weddings Collection at NZFW 2012 just couldn’t have come along at a better time. With me being able to ‘case the joint’ on the Wednesday, the three of us came back for the public showing on the Sunday morning. The wonderful thing about the collection is there was a wide range of dresses, of styles, on show. With dresses from Michelle Yvette, John Zimmermann, Sera Lilly, Alma Wong, Vinka Design, A La Robe and Anna Schimmel, as well as suits from Crane Brothers – there truly was something for just about everyone. Overall the silhouettes are looking slim and sleek, with only one or two dresses being shown with huge skirts. My only pieces of advice would be, when looking for a dress, take your own body shape into account and remember that you are going to be looking at the photos of that dress for a long time – a classic dress is rarely the wrong way to go! The dresses by A La Robe were my personal favorite with a wonderfully relaxed feel, styled with glittery ballet pumps and cashmere cardigans. The Crane Brothers suits were slickly tailored and perfectly styled. We have picked out our favorite dresses and also included the hairstyle used in the show done by Ian Smith the Creative Director for Joico, for a simple summertime wedding look.

When hair is damp use Structure foundation to begin with. Start at the nape & follow through to the front of the head. Following the same pattern go back through the hair with Structure Beach spray to give texture.
Blow-dry the hair all over using either a diffuser or scrunching with your hands to produce a fuller tousled effect.
When the hair is dried and you have enough texture separate the hair into two even sections by using a tail comb and forming a centre part from the front of the head to the base of the nape.
Pull out some pieces in the front, which you will come back to later.
With the two sections you are going to brush them into a ponytail that will be secured & sit in behind each ear.
With each ponytail, do a simple three strand plait and secure the very end. The plait can be loose as it adds to the texture of the finished look.
Secure them at the top of your head with bobby pins. The ends can crisscross and be tucked under so you can’t see them.
Go back to the front sections & put some Structure Finish spray on them.
Separate the hair into a few sections at a time. Using a small flat iron, create a water wave effect, by turning your flat iron a full rotation inward then slide the iron down the hair slightly; do a full rotation outwards. Repeat the technique the whole length of the section until you get to the ends. Once complete, use a soft brush and gently break up the wave, which gives you a soft ethereal look around the face.
Do a final spray with Structure Finish spray. KPAK restorative oil can be used on wispy bits to show a little more shine & definition. Also Joico Humidity Blocker can be sprayed over the entire head lightly to help with the finished style lasting all day.
