nzfw 2012 – ruby & liam
What a fabulous way to start NZFW 2012… Liam and Ruby kicked things off with their fabulously tight and organised show. This has been their first show at NZFW, as in previous years they have done an off-site show which has always been the hot ticket. The front row seats each had a beautiful Penguin Classic book and with a sprig of Gypsophila on them – lovely attention to detail. But that is Liam in a nutshell – beautiful, simple – classic but a with a gentle twist. Liam was all about the fabrics – with sandwashed silks in Olive, Lavender and eye popping red, which all featured in floor length dresses. The standout was the beautiful Mint Theatre Gown. With suits and trousers in soft brown wools and cream silks – love the Lady Coat with it’s long line and belted detail. To finish things off there was a gorgeous black and white painterly silk in a long cross over skirt with a tailored vest, a dress with a metallic detail on the shoulder straps and a blouse in the same fabric – loved them all.
Ruby has jut the right amount of attitude, with aqua fur detailing, black and white (marimekko inspired) stripes. With lots of black and white patterns – in particular the white with a black starburst detail on it – which were made up into jeans and a shirt and a particularly spectacular floor length gown with cap sleeves and a high neck – called the Round Midnight Dress. Metallics are going to feature all week, and Ruby has started the bar high with two pleated silver metallic dresses, one above the knee and the other floor length. Throw in Ruby’s animal print, this time is peach and also in white – and you have a sassy wearable collection. The accessories are worth noting with the Camden Flats in silver that everyone will be wanting. The Wolfy Stole as well as the Wolfman Jacket in aqua fur are a bit of rock n roll fun.
