the marr factory – karen walker

The discussion tonight at Karen Walker’s Marr Factory show was how effortless Karen Walker collections appear. It just looks like you get to put on one of the gorgeous dresses, or pants and blouses and be on your way. You just get to put on these well-crafted garments with their attention to detail and you are ready to go. With pretty collars, gathering, floaty fabrics, classic shapes (think just a little Mad Men) and tailored lines, a girl needs simple looking hair (tonight supplied by Chong Li of Stephen Marr) and a fresh looking, pared-back face (make up by Amber D for M.A.C.) and off she goes. That said, beautiful, simple looking makeup and hair does not mean no effort has gone into it! Karen Walker does effortless well. We like that. In fact we liked everything that came down the (makeshift) runway – especially the accessories and shoes. The Karen Walker/Beau Coops co-lab shoes are inspired and I imagine they will be sold out. The clutch purses in brilliant coral echo the vibrant (but not too vibrant) colours and oversized patterned fabric. And the pretty coral lips. She used an over-sized paisley – paisley gone right instead of gone wrong. The Mod feel that Walker described to ELLE.COM as “Captain Nemo meets Brian Jones” is Sea Monsters s/s 2012/13. Whether it is on the catwalks of NYFW or the sidewalk of Golden Dawn in Ponsonby – we love it.
