the week that was #5

The details are not the details, they are the design – a perfect summation of I Love Ugly’s design ethos.  With the release on Thursday night of the two newest additions to their range, the Leather Backpack and the Boxing Duffle Bag, we get to see that ethos in perfect practise.  Never one to do a large range, they do simple and concise and they do it well.  With the two bags each cased in a beautifully crafted laser-etched wooden box, it also comes with a signed limited edition art print by I Love Ugly founder, Valentin Ozich. The Leather Backpack comes in both black and brown and retails for $800, the Leather Boxing Duffle also comes in black and brown and retails for $400.  Available from iloveugly.net – that said, they appear to be sold out already on-line.  I suggest you contact them directly to find out if they are re-releasing them anytime soon.

I hear through the proverbial grapevine that a new blogger is soon to be on the scene here in Auckland with Aja Rock about to go on-line. It will be interesting to see her take on all things fashionable and fabulous.

M.A.C. have released their new range in time with Northern Hemisphere fall, with lots of deep jewel colours.  I am loving the Ready To Roam Lipglass (mid tone blue red) $38, Gadabout Girl Nail Lacquer (blackened plum) $26 and the Whims & Fancies Eye Shadow Duo with silver platinum and blackened plum $65.  Even the photography is just beautiful with all those earthy tones and textures…

Wellington label Mardle that debuted at Wellington Fashion Week this year have collaborated with Ashley Fogel to produce the Mardle Clutch in three fabric ways. They retail for $190 and you can order on-line HERE.

We got to see the wonderful range of Australian designers available at the new on-line boutique MiSHKA.co.nz this week in the flesh.  The first thing that strikes you about this beautifully curated collection of 16 designers, is the fresh colour and pattern palette.  With us so used to seeing black strongly featured in our wardrobes, it was a breath of fresh air to see all the colour. Michelle Johnson established the boutique because so many of the designers she loved while living in Australia, weren’t available here in New Zealand.  Twelve of the sixteen labels are stocked exclusive to Mishka.  The labels include Josh Goot, Willow, Maurie & Eve, Camilla And Marc, Ellery, and Magdalena Velevska. These are some of the things we loved…

Magdalena Velevska Fringed Dress in White and Pansy $890

Magdalena Velevska Reflective Paisley Dress $695

Ellery Stimuli Cocoon Shift Dress $960

Ellery Monastic Fitted Shell Top $510 & Camilla And Marc Crown Trouser $595

Rachel Ruddick Clutch in Vermillion & Sand $325 and Josh Goot Flower Brocade White Scarf $210

This week will be all about The Marr factory and the four shows we are covering.  It will be a hard week watching in season shows from some of my favorite labels.  If tonight’s Karen Walker Show was anything to go by, it is going to be a great week!  I intend on doing one post at the end of the week about upcoming NZFW, with a list of do’s and dont’s – and then it is straight into the 40 NZFW designers which I hope to cover over the following two weeks.  Then I think we might need to take a break from Fashion for a bit and concentrate on Interiors… Hope your week is shaping up as well as mine…
